PSB crafts biomass hearing schedule in Pownal

POWNAL — The Vermont Public Service Board outlined a partial schedule Friday to consider an unusual petition by developers to speed the construction of two 29.5-megawatt biomass and integrated wood pellet manufacturing facilities in Pownal and Fair Haven.

Beaver Wood Energy, LLC, is seeking permission to begin preliminary construction on both plants so it can qualify for a federal financing grant that expires at the end of the year….

Toth — a retired forest ranger and wildlife biologist — later said he felt Beaver Wood did not make a distinction between the amount of wood that exists in the harvest zone, how much is available for harvest, and how much actually should be harvested.

Beaver Wood has said its fuel studies consider the number of sellers as well as nearby existing and proposed biomass plants.
