Rural Vermont Update

November 17th (tomorrow) the debate on the  Food Safety Modernization Act (S.510) is scheduled to begin.   While this bill is vital to improving food safety standards for industrial scale corporate operations, it is critical that in making these changes we do not harm the small scale farms that are the backbone of Vermont’s rural heritage.

The two amendments that will be offered when S. 510 comes to the floor are both essential to protecting small farms, rural communities and the important new engine for economic growth that they foster.  Please call Senators Leahy and Sanders and ask them to:

· Vote for cloture which is a vote to end debate and bring S. 510 to a vote

· Vote for the Manager’s Amendment

· Vote for the Tester-Hagan Amendment

Call Our Senators In Washington, D.C. Today: Senator Leahy- (202) 224-4242 and Senator Sanders (202) 224-5141
