“We want our day in court because what is going on there is a human rights violation because they are recklessly exposing all of us to a very serious danger, which is these radionuclides and the possibility of an explosion there,” Nestel said. “We want our day in court because we want to shut it down.”

In previous interviews, Windham County State’s Attorney Tracy Shriver said she “must consider the question of where to focus scarce state prosecutorial resources” and moving forward with this case would squander resources disproportionate to the crime.

Entergy Corp., the owner of operator of Vermont Yankee, is seeking a 20-year license extension to continue operations past March 2012.
