Members of the League of Women Voters, Southeastern Vermont Unit, have announced strong opposition to the immigration measure recently passed by the Arizona Legislature and signed by the governor, in the belief that it could cause law enforcement officials to target ethnic minorities unjustly.
The local league, based in Brattleboro, is voicing its support of the positions taken by the LWV of the U.S. and of Arizona in strong opposition to the immigration measure.
“We all celebrate the American dream — that every person will receive equal justice under law,” League officials have stated publicly. The new law took effect July 29.
