News from the Ukraine: The original sarcophagus that was built around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant after it exploded and contaminated the area with vast amounts of radiation is now cracked and unstable. This month marks the 25th anniversary of the nuclear disaster in the Ukraine. State leaders have devised a “revolutionary” experimental designed to re-encase the reactor enabling them to eventually disassemble the failed plant with robots. The project is estimated to cost some one and a half Billion dollars, EU countries have pledged some 190 million dollars toward the project. The new arch which is estimated to way 23,000 tons when completed is to house the failed reactor and is projected to be finished by 2015. The process of disassembling the reactor is projected to take fifty more years yet the issue of the nuclear waist disposal is still an unresolved one. – VT4Evolution
